
Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory (NHAO) was founded in April 1, 1990 by Hyogo prefecture.
NHAO is a CSR institution, which contributes to progressing cultural and leisure time activities of workers, and provite a relaxation space to citizens. "CSR" means Culture, Sports and Recreation.
NHAO is a public observatory. So, we let visitors gaze celestial objects and be familiar to them. We also play important roles in astronomical research, education, and outreach.
NHAO is located on the top of Mount Onade (alt. 435.9 meters) in Sayo Town. Sayo town is an area to save starry sky and scenery, specified by Hyogo prefecture. So, you will find night sky is very clear and dark at NHAO. NHAO is one of the best sites for star-gazing in Japan.
