Bird's Eye View of NHAO

Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory (NHAO) was founded in April 1, 1990 by Hyogo prefecture.

Following 21 years, NHAO was a CSR institution, which contributes to progressing cultural and leisure time activities of workers, and provide a relaxation space to citizens. "CSR" means Culture, Sports and Recreation.

NHAO was transferred to University of Hyogo at Apr 1 2012.

NHAO is a research facility and a public observatory. We play important roles in astronomical research, education, and outreach. We also let visitors gaze celestial objects and be familiar to them.

NHAO is located on the top of Mount Onade in Sayo Town. Sayo town is an area to save starry sky and scenery, specified by Hyogo prefecture. So, you will find night sky is very clear and dark at NHAO. NHAO is one of the best sites for star-gazing in Japan.
