Optical Monitoring Observations of BL Lac Objects and Quasers、 pp1-10

概要: V-band photometric monitoring observations of four BL Lac objects and two quasers have been in progress at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory since October, 1991. Observations were carried out using a CCD camera system attached to the 0.6m reflector. Results of these observations between October, 1991 and March, 1993 are presented. Five objects except for 3C273 showed high activities during the period. We also detected large flares in light curves of OI090.4 (ΔV=1.4) and 3C345 (ΔV=2.0).

CCD Photometric Observations of Primary Minima of the Eclipsing Binary System RZ Cas、 pp11-14

概要:Photometric observations of the ecilpsing binary system RZ Cas were carried out using a CCD camera system attached to the 60cm reflector. Our interest is focused on he shape of the lighgt curve near the bottom of the primary minimum, as well as the period change. Light curve of two primary eclipses have been obtained. The eclipse observed on November 21, 1992 seemed to be partial, while another one observed on December 8 seemed to be total. We also confirmed a period change.

小惑星カリストの光度変化、 pp15-18

概要: CCD photometry of the asteroid 204, Kalisto, was performed. We used the CCD detector on the 60cm telescope at the Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory. Marginal light variation (~0.1 mag) in V band was detected in the data on July 24, 1992.

天体ビデオ画像における画像移動の測定、 pp19-27

概要: There are many factors that debase the quality of the astronomical picture with a telescope. In addition to the optical performance of the telescope, image shifts during the light accumulation that are caused by the seeing and also the defects of its mechanism give the serious effects to the quality of the photographic image. in order to investigate the behavier of an astronomical object in an image with the telescope (60cm reflector of Nishi-Harima Astron. Obs.), we use a high-sensitive videocamera and an image processing system, and measure the positions of the object (the planet Saturn) in the sequential frames of the video records. From the measurements, we found small image movements of various modes; fluctuations, secular movements and jumping shifts. The most of these causes come from the inomplete adjustments of the structure and the mechanism of the telescope. Using the image processing system, we reproduced the improved pictures of the planet in these image shifts are compensated. These pictures demonstlate that the image shifts during the exposure give the severe effect to the astronomical picture.

概要: We initiated low frequency radio observations at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory in 1992. Test observations at about 22, 30 and 50 MHz were made with a conical log-spiral antenna, half-wave dipole, and a 5 element Yagi, respectively. In the test observations, we identified the galactic background radiations, some Jovian decametric noise storms, solar radio bursts, and flare-associated ionospheric absorption events. We also obtained information on some characteristics of the interference at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory.

CCD測光による大気減光の測定、 pp37-40

概要: Terrestrial extinction of starlight was estimated at Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory. The CCD detector attached to the 60cm telescope was used. The amount of extinction in V band for a star at the zenith waz 0.70 mag, and that in R band was 0.66 mag in July 29, 1992. These values are much larger than those found in literature.

西はりま天文台周辺における夜間の人工灯火の現状、 pp41-45

概要: We present wide-angle pictures taken on a moonless night to record and evaluate the city-light pollution around the Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory. For comaprison, pictures taken on a hill near the Okayama Astronomical Observatory are also presented. Photographs were taken using high-sensitivity films in December, 1992 and January, 1993 and were developed simultaneously. Presently, the condition of the night sky is fairy good at Nishi-Harima for astronomical observations except for the south-east direction toward Himeji city. However, it is important to monitor the long term variation in the sky condition in order to maintain a favorable observing site.

Present Status of the Public Observatories in Japan、 pp46-56

概要: Public astronomical observatories in Japan have been rapidly increasing in recent ten years. We made a questionnaire on their present status to each observatory and get 110 answers from them. Their answers show that (1) number of large telescopes is increasing year by year, (2) many observatories have high-grade detectors, (3) in each observatory, a total number of workers is not only few but also the number of experts on astronomy is very few, (4) the budget for astronomical activities is not so much, (5) recent results of astronomy are not sufficiently informed to almost of them, (6) only few of the observatories have a council, which advises on activities and management of them. Above results show that the public observatories need an organization, which will make all of observatories active. Moreover, the observatories need advices from professional astronomers in their vicinity, which will useful to improve their environments.

Implementation and Performance Tests of Period Analysis Methods I The Phase Dispersion Minimization Method、 pp57-64

概要: I have implemented a period analysis method, the phase dispersion minimization method, as a library of Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory. Usage and data formats of the library are presented in this note. Furthermore, preliminary tests for the following effects are carried out for the library, viz., (1) form of the wave function, (2) double-periodicity, (3) unevenly sampled data, and (4) indroduction of noise. Results of above tests indicate that the performance of the library is fairly well.
